Spark the FREEdom 5K and 3K Run/Walk
Spark the FREEdom is a free July 4th run and walk at Lakewood Nature Preserve in Greenville, South Carolina. The event offers two distance options:
- 5K run/walk
- 3K run/walk
Registration opens May 1 and closes on the day of the event; there is no registration fee. The gathering is organized by the Upstate Running Club and is presented as a community-focused evening with a post-run social and potluck dinner where participants may bring side dishes, desserts, snacks, drinks, chairs, and picnic blankets.
Fireworks are part of the evening; participants are asked to use fireworks that light up the sky rather than dangerous handheld types. Camping is available on site for a fee of $25 per participant.
The preserve has no on-site water or electrical power but provides open parking, nature trails, wildlife viewing, and wide-open skies. The description emphasizes an informal, shared celebration with running, walking, food, camping, and evening activities connected to the club community.
