small park BIG RUN : programme and community activities

small park BIG RUN is a community event in Meersbrook Park that combines continuous running and walking over 24 hours with a programme of cultural and solidarity activities in support of Palestine. The weekend includes a large communal singalong at the Sunday closing ceremony and a BIG SCREEN showing short films and footage about the event's impact.

A dedicated Palestine Voices Tent focuses this year on the experience of Palestinian prisoners and links with the Red Ribbons campaign. The tent hosts talks and remote contributions from people directly affected by imprisonment and by restrictions on movement. An evening film about imprisonment is part of the programme, and a screening of Freedom to Run accompanies a shared Palestinian breakfast.

Family-friendly activities run alongside the main route. These include a lantern workshop and an after‑dark lantern walk through the woods, craft and story sessions for children organised by Families for Gaza, face painting, and a timed fun run for children with ice pops and certificates. A mini football activity called 3 3 Palestine offers skill stations and issues badges and certificates for a suggested donation; proceeds support two local Palestine charities.

Other features are a solidarity supper, buskers along the course, a torch of remembrance with LED candles placed at a solidarity tree, a registration tent outside Meersbrook Hall, and a Walled Garden cafe serving refreshments during the weekend.
