Slieve Bearnagh

Slieve Bearnagh is a short-length mountain race in the Mournes, organized by Mourne Runners. The route begins in the Happy Valley and climbs to the Meelbeg summit, the Meelbeg/Meelmore col, the Bearnagh summit, and the Meelmore summit before finishing at the bottom of the Happy Valley. It doubles as a NIMRA Championship Race and an Ulster Championship Race.

The course is open mountain terrain with multiple checkpoints; runners must stay outside the Mourne Wall on descent except at stiles. Competitors must carry FRA-specified safety kit, which will be checked; hiking poles are not permitted. Refreshments follow; parking is in the adjacent field for a fee. Pair up for the Castlewellan Christmas Cracker, a festive 8.5 mile team race through scenic forest, fields and roads with medals and cash prizes for top teams. Post race soup and rolls add a warm, celebratory finish.

Push your navigation and endurance in the Mourne Mountains at the Mourne Mountain Marathon on 19 and 20 September 2026. Teams of two tackle mountain courses, camp overnight and can choose multi day classes or a six hour score event.
