Event overview

The Mourne Mountain Marathon is a two-day endurance and navigation event in the Mourne Mountains, Northern Ireland. The 47th edition is scheduled for 19 and 20 September 2026. The event is run in partnership with Mac in a Sac and supported by Lila’s Outdoors.

Teams of two navigate set courses over country and mountain terrain, camp overnight and are expected to be self-sufficient. The event is open to walkers and elite runners. The organisers use SPORTident race timing and the Event Centre has been based at Silent Valley park on previous occasions.

Format, classes and entry

Elite, B, C and D classes compete over two days; the fastest team to visit a set number of control markers wins. A one-day Score class runs for six hours; the team that collects the most points wins. Day 1 has a flexible start time. The event includes prize categories, a T-shirt and car sticker for competitors, and refreshments at the end of day 2.
