Event

The Mourne Mountain Marathon is a two-day endurance and navigation event held in the Mourne Mountains, Northern Ireland. The 47th edition is scheduled for 19 and 20 September 2026. Teams of two compete across multi-day courses and camp overnight, remaining self-sufficient during the event. Entrants range from walkers to elite runners. The event uses SPORTident race timing and provides a T-shirt, car sticker and refreshments at the end of day two. Partners include Mac in a Sac and Lila’s Outdoors.

Format and entry

Teams may enter one of four multi-day classes (Elite, B, C and D) that are scored by fastest time around a set number of control markers over two days. Distances for the two-day classes generally fall between 35 km and 55 km, with distance and ascent guidelines varying by terrain and weather. There is also a one-day Score class in which the team that collects the most points in six hours wins. The event offers a flexible start time on day one. Entry fees are listed as £110 per team (£75 for U23 and Adult-Junior teams) and £40 per team for the Score class. Entry is limited to 200 teams.
