Event Overview

The Mourne Mountain Marathon is described as Ireland's only two-day endurance and navigation event. It takes place in the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland. Participation is for teams of two.

Course Details

There are multiple competitive classes. The event features four two-day categories covering distances between 35 km and 55 km. There is also a one-day score class. For the two-day elite, B, C, and D classes, the winning team is the fastest around a set number of control markers over the two days. For the one-day score class, the winning team is the one that collects the most points within a six-hour time limit. The distances and ascent ratios are guidelines and can vary.

Participant Experience

Teams must camp overnight and be self-sufficient. The event has a flexible start time on the first day. It uses SPORTident electronic timing. Participants receive a T-shirt and a car sticker, with refreshments provided at the end of the second day.

Practical Information

The entry fee is £110 per team for the two-day classes, with a reduced rate of £75 for Under-23 and Adult-Junior teams. The one-day Score Class entry fee is £40 per team. A NIMRA League mountain race at Leitrim Lodge on 11 April 2026, around 13 km with 682 m of ascent. The course includes marked junctions and checkpoints but is not fully waymarked, and mandatory kit and navigation are required.
