Mourne Mountain Marathon

This is a two-day team event focused on endurance and navigation, taking place in the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland. It is described as Ireland's only two-day endurance and navigation event. Participants camp overnight and must be self-sufficient.

Classes and Format

Teams of two compete across several categories. The main event has four categories (Elite, B, C, D), where the fastest team to visit a set number of control markers over two days wins. These courses cover between 35 km and 55 km. There is also a separate one-day Score class, where teams aim to collect the most points within a six-hour time limit.

Practical Details

The event uses SPORTident electronic timing. Participation costs £110 per two-person team (£75 for U23 and Adult-Junior teams). The one-day Score class costs £40 per team. Registration is limited to 200 teams. The entry fee includes a t-shirt and a car sticker. Refreshments are provided at the end of the second day. There is a flexible start time on the first day. The Pat Dunbar Memorial is a 13 km mountain race in County Down, featuring 700 meters of climb. It is a NIMRA league event requiring standard mountain running safety gear. The finish and prizegiving are at Carrick Little in the Mournes.

Hill & Dale in Castlewellan, County Down on 16 April 2026 covers 8.50 km with 330 m of ascent. The race is organised by Newcastle AC for the Hill & Dales League; GPS is not permitted and Level B mandatory kit is required.
