NIMRA LEAGUE Spread Your Wings Fell Race

The event takes place on 29 August 2026 with its race base at Sandy Brae, Attical in the Western Mournes. The course distance is 11 km with 768 m of ascent and is organised by the Northern Ireland Mountain Running Association.

The route begins on a gravel path, crosses a wall at the cattle pens, then climbs to the Big Ol' Boulder, listed as Control point 1 (267 217) on Slievemageogh. Runners continue north along the broad ridge of Pigeon to the southerly summit, Control point 2 (264 244). A free route choice leads to the summit of Slievemoughanmore, Control point 3 (250 242). A descent precedes the climb to Eagle Mountain, Control point 4 (245 229). From that summit the course is waymarked down the edge of the cliffs and finishes at Sandy Brae car park where buns and biccies are provided.

Entries open on 6 July 2026 and close on 28 August 2026. The minimum age to enter is 18. Online entry is listed at £15 and a limited number of on the day entries may be available at £18.

All competitors are required to carry a whistle; emergency rations equivalent to one Mars bar minimum; waterproof garments affording complete body protection; hat, gloves and a foil blanket; and suitable footwear for a mountain race. Sea2Sky in Donard Park, Newcastle features evening 10K race and walk plus a 5K race that moves from promenade to forest and the Mourne foothills, with mixed road, trail and an open-mountain section and post-race refreshments.

Carnavaddy is a fully marked mountain running event in Ravensdale Forest with a long 10 km route and a short 5 km route, both including summit sections and woodland trails. Level B mandatory kit is required and GPS use is not permitted.

A half marathon and 10k around the grounds and nearby forest of Hillsborough Castle, supporting Action Mental Health. The event includes distance markers, chip timing, race photos and a themed medal.

A 19 mile, 8500 ft challenge walk across the highest Mourne peaks on 8 August 2026. Participants follow their own route between fixed checkpoints and require mountain navigation skills and prior experience.
