The Buzzard's Roost

The Buzzard's Roost is a mountain running event in County Down scheduled for Saturday 3 October 2026. The course covers a distance of 11.90 km with a total climb of 870 m. Marking on the route is limited to only major junctions and the use of GPS devices is not allowed.

The race is organised by Mourne Runners as part of the IMRA Ulster Championships and the NIMRA League (Medium Distance). Competitors who wish to be included in the IMRA Ulster Championships or NIMRA League results must hold the appropriate IMRA and/or NIMRA membership for 2026 before entering their first race.

Mandatory kit is Level C - Advanced and includes a waterproof jacket with integrated hood and taped seams; hat or buff; gloves; whistle; charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored; foil blanket, bivvy bag or equivalent; waterproof full leg cover; means to carry a minimum of 500 mL water; emergency food; map of route/area; and compass.

Sea2Sky in Donard Park, Newcastle features evening 10K race and walk plus a 5K race that moves from promenade to forest and the Mourne foothills, with mixed road, trail and an open-mountain section and post-race refreshments.

Carnavaddy is a fully marked mountain running event in Ravensdale Forest with a long 10 km route and a short 5 km route, both including summit sections and woodland trails. Level B mandatory kit is required and GPS use is not permitted.

A half marathon and 10k around the grounds and nearby forest of Hillsborough Castle, supporting Action Mental Health. The event includes distance markers, chip timing, race photos and a themed medal.

A 19 mile mountain race in the Mourne Mountains with about 2,600 m ascent and an anticlockwise 2026 route over seven summits. Navigation skills and mandatory safety kit are required and entries are limited to 150.
