The Buzzard's Roost

The Buzzard's Roost is an mountain running event taking place in County Down. Organized by Mourne Runners, this race serves as a fixture within the IMRA Ulster Championships and the NIMRA League series. The event is categorized as a medium distance mountain race.

The primary race route covers a distance of 11.90 km and involves a total ascent of 870 meters. Participants navigate terrain where only major junctions are marked, and the use of GPS devices for navigation is not permitted.

Due to the nature of the course and the mountain environment, specific mandatory safety equipment is required for all participants. This kit includes a waterproof jacket with an integrated hood and taped seams, waterproof full leg cover, a hat or buff, and gloves. Additional safety items required are a whistle, a foil blanket or bivvy bag, a map of the route or area, a compass, and a charged mobile phone. Runners must also carry emergency food and a minimum of 500 mL of water.
