Ski North Ultra
Lutsen, United States • 7 Mar 2026
Event Overview
The Ski North Ultra is a classic-technique only cross-country skiing event offering two distances: a 100K ultra-distance and a 38K option. The event takes place along the North Shore of Lake Superior, near Lutsen, Minnesota.
Course & Terrain
Both courses follow the Norpine, Cascade River State Park, and Bally Creek trail systems. The event starts and finishes at Cascade River State Park. Skiers glide through forests of birch, fir, cedar, and pine with views of Lake Superior, and cross a bridge over the Cascade River waterfall. The trails are a mix of double-track and single-track. The terrain features long climbs and sharp, steep descents.
The 100K route uses advanced courses with narrow, technical trails, while the 38K route stays on intermediate-level trails. The trails are open to the public, and the route includes sections where skiers must cross roads and share two-way trails.
Additional Information
March snow conditions can vary. There is a 12-hour cutoff for the 100K distance. Participants are responsible for carrying their own beverage containers between aid stations, which can be up to 20 km apart and may be self-served.
A Great Minnesota Ski Pass (day or season pass) is required to access the state park and forest trails. A separate state park parking pass is required for those parking at Cascade River State Park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
