KRUEGER FAMILY SHAMROCK SHUFFLE SNOWSHOE & RUNNING RACE
The Shamrock Shuffle is an annual winter event held at the Vail Nordic Center to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Participants can choose between two primary athletic categories: a snowshoe race or a running race. The running category allows for the use of traction devices, though they are not required. The event takes place on the groomed trails of the Vail Nordic Center and features a festive atmosphere where participants are encouraged to wear green.
The race offers three distinct distances:
- 8K Long Course: A 5 mile route with 233 feet of elevation gain.
- 4K Short Course: A 2.3 mile route with 108 feet of elevation gain.
- Kids Fun Run: A 100 yard obstacle course for children.
The courses primarily utilize groomed trails, though both the long and short routes include a section through an un-groomed ice climbing trail and aspen trees where post-holing may occur depending on snow conditions. Aid stations providing water and hydration drinks are positioned along the routes. As this is a cup-less event, participants are encouraged to bring their own reusable hydration devices.
Facilities at the Vail Nordic Center include restrooms, a gear drop area, and a warming area. Following the competition, an afterparty is held in the Gore Range Room with refreshments for participants. Prizes are awarded to the top three finishers in various age categories, and all racers are entered into a prize raffle. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
