Fish Hatchery 5K Trail Run

The Fish Hatchery 5K is a cross country style race held at the Leadville National Fish Hatchery. The event takes place on May 31, 2026 and follows a scenic route through subalpine forest near and around the Evergreen Lakes and lower Rock Creek area. The course surface includes dirt road, path and trail.

Registration for adults is $25 while youth 17 and under register for free. Race-day registration is held in front of the main hatchery building. Online registration is available.

Awards are presented by gender and age group. Top male and female finishers will be recognized in the 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+ divisions. The 12 and under age group will receive awards for the top three male and female finishers. A post-race raffle is part of the event.

The Leadville National Fish Hatchery is operated by the US Fish & Wildlife Service. The hatchery was established in 1889 and is the second oldest Federal hatchery in operation. Proceeds from this race benefit the Leadville-Lake County Sports Hall of Fame.

Directions note: follow Hwy 24 south of Leadville for four miles, then turn right on Hwy 300. Hwy 300 leads directly to the hatchery, about two miles from the turn. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
