Event Format

This is a seven-hour "Time Challenge" event where participants choose their own distance by running laps within the time limit. The minimum distance to be an official finisher is 3 km. A full lap is approximately 4.37 miles (7 km), though this may change to a 3.28 mile loop depending on conditions. There are designated 3 km and 5 km turn points on the lap for younger runners.

Distances

Participants can run any distance they choose. Typical benchmarks include:

  • Half Marathon: 3 laps
  • Marathon: 6 laps
  • Ultra Marathon: 7 or more laps
  • 50 km distance is also available.

Course

The route is a trail run along a stretch of the River Wear, offering views of Durham Cathedral. The course is fully signed, requiring no navigation experience.

Venue & Facilities

The event starts and finishes at the Durham Amateur Rowing Club in Durham. Toilets and changing facilities are available at race HQ. There is a self-service bag drop near the start/finish area, but participants are responsible for their belongings.

On-Site Support

An aid table with drinks and snacks (including crisps, cheese, fruit, cookies, and vegan options) is located at the start/finish of each lap.

Awards & Swag

All finishers who complete at least 3 km receive a themed medal and a bobble hat. Additional distance pins (for Half Marathon, Marathon, 50km, and Ultra distances) are awarded and can be attached to the medal ribbon.

Registration & Logistics

Entry prices vary by distance and membership status. Final race instructions are emailed 7-10 days before the event. Race numbers are collected on the day at registration.
