Event Details
The Great British Bake Run takes place at Dare Valley Country Park in Aberdare. It is a 7-hour time challenge event, allowing participants to choose their own distance. The minimum distance to be considered a finisher is 3km.
Course
The course follows well-maintained footpaths within Dare Valley Country Park. A full lap measures approximately 4.37 miles (7km). The course is subject to change based on a health and safety review, and there are designated 3k and 5k turn points for younger runners.
Distances & Registration
Multiple distance options are available within the time limit:
- 3km
- 5km (minimum age 12)
- 10km (minimum age 16)
- Half Marathon (minimum age 17, approximately 3 laps)
- Marathon (minimum age 18, approximately 6 laps)
- 50km (minimum age 20)
- Ultra Marathon (minimum age 18)
- Time Challenge (minimum age 18)
What's Included
All finishers who complete at least 3km receive a themed cupcake-shaped medal that also functions as a magnet. Runners completing a half marathon or longer receive an additional distance pin (Half-Marathon, Mega-Half, Marathon, 50km, Ultra). All finishers also receive a goody bag, with a vegan option available.
A baking competition is held with prizes for best tasting, best looking, and best effort cake. The entries are placed on the aid table for consumption during the event.
Venue & Logistics
The venue offers free parking, toilets, and a cafe serving hot drinks and food near the race headquarters. There is a bag drop area at the start/finish, but it is not secure. Race numbers are collected on the day at registration. Final instructions are emailed the week before the event.
Other Information
The aid station provides a selection of drinks, crisps, cheese, fruit, cookies, vegan options, and ice cream. Participants must be considerate of other users as the event uses public footpaths.
