Rocky at 50 Run - Wales

This event marks 50 years since the Rocky film and takes place at Dare Valley Country Park in Aberdare. It is run as a 7 hour Time Challenge that lets participants choose how far to run, with a minimum official finishing distance of 3 km. A full lap is described as 7 km (4.37 miles) though the course may be changed to a shorter loop depending on conditions. The lap includes 3 km and 5 km turn points to help younger runners comply with UK Athletics distance rules.

The route follows well maintained footpaths around the country park and offers views of the surrounding countryside. The surface is suitable for road trainers. Finishers who complete at least 3 km receive a themed medal; runners covering half-marathon distance or more receive distance pins that are attached to the medal ribbon.

Support at the venue includes an aid and drinks table at the start/finish of each lap with a selection of snacks and vegan options. All finishers receive a goody bag; a vegan goody bag option is available. Facilities on site include toilets and a cafe; there are no separate changing rooms or showers. Free parking is available. A bag drop is provided but it is not a secure storage area. Bone-conducting headphones only are permitted. The event is organised by Saturn Too Limited. Phoenix Running South Wales stages the Manta Ray Run at Parc Taf Bargoed, Trelewis. Participants run repeated 5.3 km laps within a seven hour time limit and receive a bespoke finisher medal unless they choose a no medal option.

A 6.4 km fell race at Calon y Cwm camping, Cilycwm, with 244 m ascent on a partially marked route through fields, wet forest, tracks and rocky ground. Entry on the day £7; minimum age over 16.

A 40 mile coastal ultra on 6 June 2026 from Porthcawl to Lavernock Point along the Wales Coast Path, featuring beaches, cliffs and Ogmore Castle, with three staffed checkpoints and no formal time limit.

Trail races in the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) offering Marathon and Half Marathon distances plus bergen versions with a 45 lb pack. Routes run on mountain trails with substantial ascent and finishers receive medals and mugs of tea.
