The Saturn 7 Hour Time Challenge - Gilesgate is a timed event held at the Durham Amateur Rowing Club. Participants have 7 hours to complete as many laps as they choose along a trail course following the River Wear, featuring views of the Durham Cathedral. The route is fully signed and no navigational experience is required.

The course consists of a loop approximately 7 km (4.37 miles) long, though this may be adjusted to a 3.28 mile loop depending on ground conditions. Runners and walkers of all abilities are welcome to participate. Specific distances can be achieved within the time limit:

  • 3 km (Minimum distance for official finishers)
  • Half Marathon (3 laps)
  • Marathon (6 laps)
  • 50 km
  • Ultra (7 laps or more)

An aid station located at the start and finish of each lap provides water and a selection of sweet and savoury snacks, including vegan options. All finishers receive a themed medal and a goody bag. Participants who complete a half marathon or further are also eligible for distance-specific pins to attach to their medal ribbon.

Facilities at the race headquarters include toilets and changing areas. An unstaffed area is available for bag storage near the start line. Parking is available on nearby streets or at city centre pay and display locations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
