San Juan Solstice 50 : Lake City, Colorado

San Juan Solstice 50 is a 50 mile trail run held in Lake City, Colorado, scheduled in the vicinity of the summer solstice. The event uses high mountain trails and has a history of variable alpine conditions, including persistent snowfields, difficult creek crossings, and occasional lightning near the Continental Divide.

The event began in 1995 as the Lake City 50 and later became a community benefit for Lake City EMTs. Its date has shifted over the years to align with the summer solstice because conditions before the solstice can include steep snowfields, hazardous creek crossings, and inaccessibility of some aid stations. For 2026 the race is set for June 20.

Live tracking is required. The race uses MAProgress for live tracking and every runner must carry a tracker registered with MAProgress for this race. Trackers may be the runner’s own, borrowed, or rented from MAProgress or another company. Runners using rented trackers receive printed instructions at check in, and those using personal or borrowed units are expected to know how to operate them.

Prerequisites include being at least 18 years old and having completed a prior trail ultra. Participants should have substantial high mountain experience and be comfortable in alpine settings. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
