The San Juan Solstice 50 is a mountain ultramarathon held in Lake City, Colorado. The 2026 edition is scheduled for June 20, 2026. The race distance is 50 Miler and the start area is at Lake City Town Park. The field capacity is 300 runners.
Course and logistics
The route includes Alpine Gulch, which has seven creek crossings and narrow trail sections that can cause congestion. Organizers added three marked options for the 3rd and 4th creek crossings: a standard crossing with a short trail section (about 175 feet), a route along the creek right-hand side (about 175 feet), and a steeper scramble that crosses higher above the creek (about 225 feet). Test runs showed all three options were within nine seconds of each other. The Williams Creek cutoff time has been extended to reduce congestion. MAProgress live tracking is used and runners must carry a registered tracker.
Registration and prerequisites
The event uses a lottery for entry. Runners selected by the lottery are charged and entered. Waitlisted runners are not charged until they move onto the runner list; when offered a spot they may accept or decline. Registration and waitlist procedures are managed by the organizers.
