Saltire 24 Ultra Trail Race
The Saltire 24 is an endurance trail running event held at the Knockburn Sports Loch in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire. The event takes place during midsummer, utilizing the scenic surroundings of the Knockburn estate, Kerloch Hill, and Fetteresso Forest. Participants follow waymarked trails on a multi-terrain course.
The race is formatted as a lapped endurance event where runners aim to complete as many laps as possible within a set timeframe. The lap distance is 4.2 miles. The event provides different duration options:
- 24 hour race
- 12 hour race
- 6 hour race
Participants may enter as solo runners or as part of a team. Team sizes range from small groups of 2-4 people to larger groups of 5-8 people. For those competing in teams, only one member is permitted to be on the course at any given time.
The venue features various facilities located at the Sports Academy and near the conference centre, including a shower block and access to gender-neutral portaloos. Limited serviced camping is also available on-site for the duration of the event. Safety is managed through fixed and mobile marshals as well as medics positioned around the course.
