James & George Collie 15 Mile Trail Race

The James & George Collie 15 Mile Trail Race is a measured 15 mile trail event on the Balmoral Estate near Ballater, Aberdeenshire. The route starts with views of Balmoral Castle and follows the River Dee westward before a gradual climb through the Ballochbuie pine forest. Around mile 8 the course leaves the river and ascends about 120 metres toward the base of Lochnagar. The final three miles run downhill back toward the castle, with a noted "sting in the tail."

The terrain is hilly and mostly Land Rover track, with the last mile potentially muddy and exposed to wind, rain or snow. Distance markers are provided at every mile. There are two water stations at Connachat House. There are no toilets on the course; toilets are available at the start and finish. Male and female changing tents are provided but there are no showers. Massage is available adjacent to the information tent.

Entries cost £29 or £27 for Scottish Athletics members. All entrants must be 18 or older on race day. Entry includes a finisher's medal, electronic timing, a downloadable finisher's certificate and free field parking; allow at least a 15 minute walk from the car parks to the start. The event operates a maximum finish time of 3.5 hours for the 15 mile race and may close entries earlier if sold out. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
