Salomón Pico Memorial Trail Run
The Salomón Pico Memorial Trail Run takes place at the Newlove Picnic Grounds in the Solomon Hills, located just south of Orcutt, California. Organized by Santa Maria Valley Open Space, the event offers a unique opportunity to run through the majestic Solomon Hills, featuring views spanning from the scenic 101 corridor to the historic Bicknell townsite.
The course consists of a 5 mile loop that begins with a climb from the picnic grounds and meanders south. The terrain includes steep sections and an out-and-back stretch to Solomon Peak before returning to the start-finish area. Each loop features approximately 900 feet of elevation gain. Participants can choose between three different distances based on the number of completed laps:
- 5 miles: A single completion of the loop.
- 10 miles: Two laps of the trail course.
- 15 miles: Three laps of the trail course.
There is a single aid station located at the start-finish area. A specific pace requirement is in effect, with a cutoff time of 12:30 PM for any runner starting their final loop, based on a 20-minute-per-mile pace. Parking is situated near the start-finish line, allowing participants to use their vehicles for self-support during the race.
The event prohibits strollers, dogs, and pacers on the course. All participants must electronically sign waivers during the registration process to be eligible to run. While online registration is available, day-of signups are also offered at the venue. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
