The Sale Fell Race takes place on 22 November 2025 and is organised by Cumberland Fell Runners. The senior course is Category BS and is 5.9 km (3.7 miles) with 274 m (900 ft) of climb. Junior races are provided for U9, U11, U13 and U15; juniors in the U17 category may enter the main race. The event holds an FRA permit and associated insurance.
Course and logistics
The venue is Sale Fell, near Wythop Mill (grid ref NY 191 301). The route follows marked footpaths; the turning point will be marked and the summit will be manned by a marshal. Roadside parking is available near the Sale Fell gate, and parking is also possible near the Pheasant Inn (grid ref NY 199 307).
Pre-entry is required for the senior race; junior races have entry on the day. The advertised pre-entry fee for the senior race is £6.75 plus event fees. Prize categories include senior male and female and veterans V40, V50, V60, V70 and V80. Course records are 24:10 (male, 2018) and 28:32 (female, 2018).
Required kit includes a waterproof jacket and trousers, hat, gloves, map, compass and whistle; emergency rations are advised. FRA kit requirements apply and the race organiser may adjust kit requirements on race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
