Saguaro Showdown

Saguaro Showdown is a backyard ultra style run and ruck event held at Usery Mountain Regional Park in Mesa, AZ and organized by Kaniksu Ultras. The event uses a repeating loop format in which each participant must complete a loop within one hour; the next loop begins on the hour and continues until only one runner and one rucker remain.

There are separate race categories for runners and ruckers. Each runner and rucker may only compete in one category. Participants must be present in the start corral when the next loop begins; late starts and self elimination remove a participant from continuing. Once the bell rings to start a loop, participants must remain on course except to use the portable toilets. Crews are permitted but participants are expected to provide their own aid. A small area next to the start and finish is available for chairs, coolers, and small personal gear, and overnight stays are permitted.

Race operations switch to an out-and-back road section during the evening and return to the daytime trail loop the following morning. The Backyard 24 option ties all participants who complete 24 hours; if a single participant remains alone they may continue to finish 24 hours.
