Running Up For Air Moab

Moab, United States • 4 Apr 2026

Event Overview

Running Up For Air Moab is an endurance trail event held at the Moab Rim Trailhead in Utah. This event is part of a series focused on air quality awareness and supports non-profit organizations. Participants navigate a looped course during springtime in the desert, which typically offers sunshine and dry conditions. The event follows a minimal footprint philosophy and is a cup-free race, requiring participants to bring their own hydration vessels.

Course Details

The course consists of a short and steep loop. Participants ascend the Stairmaster Trail, a rocky singletrack trail that gains 890 feet over 0.95 miles. At the top, runners reach a turnaround point with views of the Moab valley and the La Sal mountains. The descent takes place on the adjacent Moab Rim Trail, a wide 4WD track made of slickrock. Each full loop is approximately 1.9 miles in total. An aid station providing water, sports drink, and basic food is located at the start and finish area at the bottom of the loop.

Event Options

  • 12 hour race: A timed event to complete as many laps as possible in 12 hours.
  • 6 hour race: A timed event to complete as many laps as possible in 6 hours.
  • 3 hour race: A timed event with two separate start time options.
  • 3 hour relay: A timed event for pairs or friends to trade off laps.

Logistics

There is no parking available at the event site or on Kane Creek Blvd. Participants must use a shuttle service departing from Helen M Knight Elementary School or reach the site by biking or running from town. There is no cell phone reception at the base of the course, though reception is available at the top. Pets are not permitted, and trekking poles are not recommended due to the slickrock surface.
