Event overview

The Chiltern Ridge Winter 50K is a single-loop trail ultramarathon taking place on 31 October 2026. The course distance is 50K with approximately 800m+ of elevation. The race starts and finishes at Berkhamsted Cricket Club and is limited to 325 runners. The event is fully marked, licensed by the Trail Running Association and run under UKA rules. There is a 9-hour time limit. Minimum age is 20 and dogs/Canicross are not permitted. The race holds a UTMB World Series index. Entry fees are listed at £75 (£73 UKA affiliated), with a discounted rate for the first 25 entrants; entries open 22/11/25.

Route and support

The route passes through Berkhamsted Common, National Trust’s Ashridge Estate and joins The Ridgeway National Trail to Aldbury (CP1), then continues about 13 km to Wendover (CP2) before following the Chiltern Way back through woodland to finish in Berkhamsted. The course is fully marked with orange arrows and ribbons; marshals will assist at road crossings. A GPX file and printed maps are available.

There are three full checkpoints and one water-only point. Checkpoints and key locations:

Aid station supplies include water, cola, Precision Fuel & Hydration products (drinks, gels, chews), snacks, flapjacks and fresh fruit.

Logistics and kit

The event base is Berkhamsted Cricket Club. There is no on-site parking; public car parks listed with walking distances and fees. Berkhamsted train station is a short walk to the venue. Required kit includes a mobile phone, route GPX and paper map, waterproof jacket, warm hat and gloves, additional dry layer, head torch, refillable hydration (0.5L min), and cash or bank card.
