Event Overview

The Chiltern Ridge Winter 50K is the autumn/winter edition of a classic race. The 2026 event will be its third edition and takes place on Saturday, 31 October.

The Course

The route is a single-loop course that starts and finishes in Berkhamsted. It follows a set of classic trails in the heart of the Chilterns. The course uses sections of The Ridgeway National Trail and the Chiltern Way, featuring woodland trails, single track paths, and views.

The race begins at Berkhamsted Cricket Club, heading through Berkhamsted Common and the Ashridge Estate. It follows The Ridgeway to Aldbury and then Wendover, before turning back via the Chiltern Way through more intricate paths and finishing with a downhill approach into Berkhamsted.

Race Information

The event is fully marked with signage and has marshals at key points. There is a 9-hour overall time limit. The race is licensed by the Trail Running Association and run under UKA rules. The maximum number of runners is 325.

Aid Stations & Facilities

There are three full checkpoints and one water-only point on the route. Aid stations provide water, cola, Precision Fuel & Hydration drinks and gels, crisps, sweets, fruit, and Chia Charge flapjacks. Toilets are available at the event base and the first two checkpoint locations.

Participant Requirements

All runners must be aged 20 or older. Required gear includes a mobile phone, the route GPX on a device, a paper map (provided), a waterproof jacket, a warm hat and gloves, an additional long sleeve layer, a head torch, a refillable water system (minimum 0.5L), and cash or a bank card. Trail running shoes are recommended.

Entry Details

The standard entry fee is £75 (£73 for UKA affiliated runners). The first 25 participants receive a discounted rate of £68 (£66 affiliated). Entry includes a finisher's medal, chip timing with live results, aid station support, on-course medical support, and free event photos. Technical t-shirts are available for separate purchase.
