St Albans Stampede - 12hr Enduro
The St Albans Stampede is an ultra marathon held in the Hertfordshire countryside, covering parts of Heartwood Forest and Nomansland Common. The course is based on repeated four-mile loops completed over a maximum period of 12 hours, and entries are offered solo, as two person teams or as larger relays with four or eight people.
Prizes for top solo runners and winning teams are awarded in three categories: male, female and mixed. Category placings are decided by distance covered rather than by time completed. All entrants who complete at least one loop are considered to have participated and receive a medal. Participants who wish to record a marathon distance must complete a full seventh lap to reach a minimum of 28 miles.
The event is licensed by the TRA and is held under UK Athletics rules. Under UKA rules, entrants aged 17 may run a maximum of 25 km and entrants aged 18 and 19 may run a maximum of 45 km; these age based distance limits affect eligibility for solo prizes but do not prevent younger runners from taking part as team members.
The event site is at Heartwood Forest, St Albans, Hertfordshire. Access details include a car park off the B651 near AL4 9DQ, bus service 304 to Sandridge Village with a bridleway approach to the event HQ, and rail access via St Albans City Station.
