About the race
The St Albans Stampede is a 12 hour ultra running event held in the Hertfordshire countryside, covering parts of Heartwood Forest and Nomansland Common. Competitors complete repeated four mile loops and aim to cover as much distance as possible within the allotted 12 hour period. Entries can be completed solo or as part of a relay team in several team sizes. Prizes are awarded to top solo runners and to winning teams in three categories: male, female and mixed.
Category winners are determined by distance covered only; completing the full 12 hour period is not required to place. All entrants who complete at least one loop receive a medal. Participants who wish to record a marathon distance for the 100 Marathon Club should complete a full seventh lap, which results in at least 28 miles covered. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and is conducted under UK Athletics rules.
Under those rules, entrants aged 17 may run a maximum of 25 km and entrants aged 18 and 19 may run a maximum of 45 km; these age-based distance limits may affect eligibility for solo prizes but do not prevent participation as part of a team.
