Event Overview

The Run for the Hills is an annual athletic event held within the grounds of Hidden Lake Gardens in Tipton, Michigan. Now in its 16th year, the event utilizes the natural landscape of Southeast Michigan to provide participants with a course characterized by its elevation changes and botanical scenery. The proceeds from the race support the continued operation of Hidden Lake Gardens and the non-profit organization Oh! These Irish Hills.

Participants can choose from the following distances:

  • 5K Run: A 3.1-mile course professionally timed by the Michigan Running Foundation.
  • 5K Walk: A 3.1-mile non-competitive walking option on the same hilliest route.
  • 1 Mile Walk: A shorter walking distance focused on the garden scenery.

Venue and Logistics

Hidden Lake Gardens is a facility owned by Michigan State University. For the safety of participants, the entrance gate to the gardens remains closed during the primary hours of the event. Registered participants receive complimentary entry to the gardens, while spectators are required to pay standard admission fees. Pets are not permitted on the grounds for this specific event.

Packet pickup is available on the Friday afternoon before the race or on the morning of the event. Registration includes a participant t-shirt if completed by the early bird deadline at the end of August. All participants who finish their respective events receive a finisher medal.
