The Event

The Run for Recovery 12K is a trail run event held at Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area in Parkland County. It is an organized and timed trail race designed to be family-friendly and open to runners and walkers of all abilities. Several distances are offered:

  • 12K trail run: 50% technical single-track and 50% rolling Nordic track, with approximately 350m of elevation change.
  • 6K run/walk: 100% on rolling Nordic track.
  • 3K run/walk: A flat course on double-wide trails, suitable for all ages and abilities.
  • 1.2K kids fun run: A flat, treed loop.

Practical Details

Registration fees are $60 for the 12K and 6K, and $40 for the 3K. The kids' 1.2K fun run is free. A reduced registration fee option is available with a commitment to fundraise a minimum of $100 for the charity partners. Registration for the 12K, 6K, and 3K includes event-branded swag, and all finishers receive a medal.

Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age category (U15, Open, 55+) for the 12K and 6K distances, and for kids under 12 years old in the 3K. Top male and female overall finishers for the 12K and 6K will also receive awards.

Charitable Cause

All proceeds from the event (registration fees less expenses, bottle returns, and silent auction) and 100% of fundraising donations will be split equally between two Edmonton-based charities: Our House Addiction Recovery Centre, a one-year residential program for men, and McDougall House, a residential addiction treatment facility for women. Aid stations will be available on the course and at the start/finish, where hotdogs and chips will be for sale. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
