Chad's Day for Change Urban Trail Race
Chad's Day For Change Urban Trail Race
The event takes place at Gold Bar Park and highlights the east end of the river valley trail system. The course includes both single-track and wider trails and departs from the park onto three distinct loops.
The three loops are described as follows: a 12 km loop to Dawson Park, a 12 km loop that crosses the North Saskatchewan River into the Sunridge Ski Area, and a 10 km loop through Goldstick Park. Each loop passes favorite fishing spots, trails used with a dog, and parks visited with children.
The race offers multiple formats and distances:
- 34 km solo
- 34 km relay (3 runners)
- 21 km half marathon
- 12 km or 10 km single loop solo
- 5 km walk/run
- 1.2 km kids event
The event is held in memory of an individual who died by suicide in 2023 and aims to raise awareness of men's mental health and promote supporting organizations. Fundraising supports HeadsUpGuys, an online platform that provides resources and education for men facing depression and suicidal thoughts. In the first two years, CA$17,400 was raised. Each registration includes a CA$10 add-on option for HeadsUpGuys; the kids event requires a minimum CA$5 donation with no other fees. All finishers receive a medal, and shirts are provided for all categories except the kids event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
