Chickakoo, AB - 5 Peaks Trail Running

The fourth event of the Northern Alberta 5 Peaks Trail Running series takes place at Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area in Parkland County, about 30 minutes west of Edmonton. The park spans roughly 480 acres of woods and lakes and attracts a variety of birds and wildlife such as moose, deer, and beavers.

The race route is known for sustained hill climbs, technical singletrack, steep downhills, and fast hard pack sections. The start and finish are located at the main parking lot; runners move quickly into the park and through singletrack, and near the end the course provides views from the top of a ridge before descending back to the finish.

Distances offered:

  • 1 km Kid's Run
  • 3 km Kid's Run
  • 7.8 km Sport Run or Hike
  • 13.6 km Enduro Run or Hike

Maps and distances may change based on trail conditions. The enduro is a single loop. Washroom facilities are available at the start/finish area. Parking is limited and participants may be directed to the equestrian parking lot with a short walk to the start. The event is cup free; water and electrolyte drink are available at the start, finish, and at one or more aid stations. Sport and Enduro finishers receive a finisher swag item; sustainably sourced wooden medals made in Canada are available for purchase and must be picked up at the event. Awards are presented to top finishers in gender and age categories and to overall top finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
