Dawn Valley, Canada • 9 Aug 2026

Event overview

This event is the fourth race in the Northern Alberta 5 Peaks Trail Running Series, held at Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area in Parkland County, about 30 minutes west of Edmonton. The park covers 480 acres of woods and lakes and is habitat for a variety of wildlife, including birds, moose, deer, and beavers. The site is used by runners, hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders in summer and is groomed for cross-country skiing in winter. The start and finish are at the main parking lot.

Courses and race features

  • 1 km Kid's Run
  • 3 km Kid's Run
  • 7.8 km Sport Run or Hike
  • 13.6 km Enduro Run or Hike (single loop)

The course uses singletrack that leaves the start area and returns to the main parking lot. Route features described by the organizer include grinding hill climbs, technical singletrack, steep downhills, and fast hard-pack sections. Runners pass a ridge with views near the final climb before descending back to the finish.

Logistics and services

Parking is limited; participants may be directed to park in the equestrian lot and walk to the start/finish. Washroom facilities are available at the start/finish area. Spectators are welcome, with best viewing at the start/finish. The event is cup-free; water and electrolyte drink are provided at the start/finish and at one or more aid stations on course. The organizer advises carrying a personal drinking receptacle for efforts longer than an hour. Certain items are not permitted on course: dogs, headphones, strollers or baby joggers, and nordic walking poles.

All finishers of the Sport and Enduro events receive a finisher swag item. Finisher medals, made from sustainably sourced wood in Canada, can be purchased in advance or on site while supplies last. Awards are presented to the top three finishers by gender in each age and distance category, and to the top three male and female overall; awards must be picked up at the race.
