5 Peaks - Chickakoo (Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area, Parkland County, AB)

The event is held at Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area in Parkland County, about 30 minutes west of Edmonton. Chickakoo covers 480 acres of woods and lakes and attracts a variety of birds and wildlife such as moose, deer, and beavers.

The start and finish are at the main parking lot; runners move quickly into the park and onto singletrack. The course is known for grinding hill climbs, technical singletrack, steep downhills, and fast hard pack sections. Near the end, a final climb reaches a ridge with views before descending back to the start/finish.

Distances and maps provided by the organizer and subject to change based on trail conditions:

  • Kid's Run, 1 km
  • Sport Run or Hike, 7.8 km
  • Enduro Run or Hike, 13.6 km

Practical details include washrooms at the start/finish area and limited parking with possible direction to the equestrian lot. The event is cup free; water and an electrolyte drink are available at the start/finish and at one or more aid stations. Finishers of the Sport and Enduro events receive a finisher swag item; finisher medals can be pre-purchased or bought on site while supplies last. Awards are given to top finishers in gender and age categories and must be picked up at the race. Dogs, headphones, strollers or baby joggers, and nordic walking poles are not permitted on course. Trail race at Terwillegar Park featuring technical single track, steep riverside climbs and muddy sections. Distances range from 1 km kids races to a 16.2 km enduro and the event is cup free.

A backyard ultra held May 16, 2026 near Spruce Grove, Alberta with repeated 6.7 km loops that must start on the hour and finish within the hour. The event supports Olive Tree Projects through the River’s Edge Running Series.
