5 Peaks - Chickakoo

Event

This is the fourth event of the Northern Alberta 5 Peaks Trail Running series, held at Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area in Parkland County, approximately 30 minutes west of Edmonton. Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area covers about 480 acres of woods and lakes and is home to a diversity of birds and wildlife including moose, deer, and beavers. The area is used by runners, hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders in summer and is groomed for cross-country skiing in winter.

  • 13.6 km Enduro Run or Hike

The start and finish are located at the main parking lot. Runners move quickly into singletrack trails. The route includes hill climbs, technical singletrack, steep downhills, and hard-packed sections. Near the end there are views from the top of a ridge before descending back to the start/finish. Race distances and maps may change based on trail conditions.

Logistics and rules

Washroom facilities are available at the start/finish area. Parking is limited; attendees may be directed to equestrian parking with a short walk to the start. The event is cup-free; water and electrolyte drink are provided at the start/finish and at one or more aid stations. The following are not permitted on course: dogs, headphones, strollers or baby joggers, and nordic walking poles. Awards and finisher swag are provided for designated distances; medals are available while supplies last and must be picked up at the event.
