Medicine Run Ultra & Relay at Kihcihkaw Askî, Edmonton
The event takes place on September 5 and 6, 2026 at Kihcihkaw Askî, Sacred Land, Fox Drive Northwest, Edmonton, Alberta. It is a trail event run on 12.5-kilometre loops. Solo runners and relay teams can complete up to 100 kilometres using those loops.
Offered formats include solo and team relays with specified team rules: a minimum of two registered teammates for all relay distances and maximum team sizes set per distance. Distances include:
- 5K for youth and elders
- 25 kilometres
- 50 kilometres
- 75 kilometres
- 100 kilometres
The course uses single-track and double-track trails in the Edmonton River Valley. Participants retrieve a prayer flag at the farthest point of each loop and return it to the start/finish for a stamp and time before continuing or handing off. Relay handoffs include carrying a hand carved wooden feather from one runner to the next.
Timing is manual and the event states there are no hard cutoffs. Aid stations are stocked with hot and cold options, snacks, water, sports drinks and some traditional foods such as bannock and Mitsoh pemmican. Required gear includes a headlamp for night running when applicable, a whistle, hydration and a phone. Parking is available 24 hours at Kihcihkaw Aski. Portable toilets are located at Kihcihkaw Aski and Snow Valley. One team tent per team is allowed, maximum size 10 x 10 ft. In case of rain, single-track sections will be replaced by an extended double-track out-and-back of 6.25 km to preserve the 12.5 km loop length.
