5 Peaks - Gold Bar (Gold Bar Park, Edmonton)

The third event in the 5 Peaks Northern Alberta Trail Running Series takes place at Gold Bar Park, east of downtown Edmonton along the North Saskatchewan River. The park features hard pack trails, technical singletrack and the route known as Esso Hill. It is used in both summer and winter.

Distances offered:

  • 1 km Kid's Race
  • 3 km Kid's Race
  • 6.4 km Sport Run or Hike
  • 12.9 km Enduro Run or Hike

The course begins with about 2 kilometres of hard pack trail with room to spread out before climbing toward Goldstick Park and entering singletrack. The first aid station is located at the top of a steep climb. After the aid station the course returns to singletrack, flows back to the park, heads out to 50 Street and loops back to the park. The 3 km kids race includes singletrack sections.

Practical information: washroom facilities are available at the start/finish area. Parking is limited and spectators have the best viewing from the start/finish area. The event is cup-free; water and electrolyte drink are available at the start, finish and at one or more aid stations on course. Participants planning to be out longer than an hour should carry a receptacle for fluids. Course rules prohibit dogs, headphones and strollers; nordic walking poles are allowed only in non-competitive hiking divisions.

Swag and optional finisher medals can be purchased before the event or on site while supplies last. Medals are awarded to the top three finishers in each gender for each age and distance category, and to the top three male and female finishers overall. Awards are presented after results are compiled. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
