Event Overview

The 5 Peaks - Gold Bar event is the third race in the 5 Peaks Northern Alberta Trail Running Series. It takes place in Gold Bar Park, located east of Downtown Edmonton along the North Saskatchewan River.

Course Details

The park features hard pack trails and technical singletrack, including the well-known Esso Hill. The course starts with 2 kilometers of hard pack trail, followed by a climb towards Goldstick Park and singletrack sections. An aid station is located at the top of a steep climb. The course then returns through singletrack towards the park before looping out towards 50 Street and back.

Available distances include:

  • Kid's Race - 1 km (free entry)
  • Kid's Race - 3 km (described as one of the most challenging kids races)
  • Sport Run or Hike - 6.4 km
  • Enduro Run or Hike - 12.9 km

Event Information

Packet pick-up begins on the event day. There is a designated start for hikers and walkers. The event is cup-free, meaning participants must carry their own receptacle for drinks at aid stations. Parking is limited, and carpooling is recommended. Spectators are welcome, with the best viewing at the start/finish area. Washroom facilities are available at the start/finish area.

Swag and optional finisher medals are available for separate purchase. Awards are given to the top three finishers in each gender, age category, and distance, and to the top three overall male and female finishers. All awards must be picked up at the race.
