Rombald's Romp Fell Race

Ilkley, United Kingdom • 26 Sep 2026

Rombalds Romp Fell Race

Rombalds Romp is a fell race organised by North Leeds Fell Runners on Ilkley Moor. The course is a single lap of 13 kilometres (8.1 miles) with approximately 370 metres (1,214 ft) of ascent and is listed as a BM fell race. The route is described as multi-terrain with rough rocky tracks, heathery paths and about one mile of road on the back of the moor.

The route includes a forest section with tree roots and several small wooden bridges that can be slippery when wet. A recently cleared section of the forest has old roots that may make footing tricky. The race starts and finishes on Keighley Road, with Race HQ and registration at the finish on Keighley Gate Road. Competitors are asked to use Darwin Gardens car park (about a five minute walk from the start) or nearby Wells Road and adjoining streets once that car park is full. The nearest SatNav postcode given is LS29 9JE.

Facilities are basic: there is no water on course, no distance markers, no changing or shower facilities, no baggage storage and no toilets at the race start. Public toilets are available in the town centre about 1 km from the start. Entry is limited to 200 places. The race is an FRA event and mandatory kit includes a waterproof jacket with taped seams and attached hood, waterproof trousers, hat, gloves, compass and whistle. Prizes are awarded to the first three men and women and in specified veteran categories; only one prize per runner. The race licence is listed as FRA TBC and the course is not suitable for wheelchairs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
