Course, kit and logistics
The route starts and finishes on Keighley Road, about half a mile from Race HQ at the Wells Road car park, Ilkley. The course is multi-terrain: rough rocky tracks, heathery paths, a forest section with wooden bridges and tree roots, and about one mile of road on the back of the moor. The organiser states that tree roots and wooden bridges can be slippery when wet and that a newly cleared forest line may expose old roots.
This is an FRA-licensed race and mandatory kit includes a waterproof jacket with taped seams and hood, waterproof trousers, hat, gloves, compass and whistle; rules may be relaxed in good conditions. Facilities are basic - no changing or showering facilities - and toilets are available near the start (about 200–500 m). First aid posts are at the start/finish and at Whetstone Gate. Water is provided on course at Whetstone Gate and finishers receive water and a bottle of beer. Parking is at the Race HQ car park with overflow to nearby streets.
