Rombald's Romp Fell Race

Rombald's Romp is a fell race scheduled for Saturday 26th September 2026. It is classified as a BM category event covering 8.1 miles with approximately 1,214 ft of ascent. The route starts and finishes on Keighley Road, roughly half a mile from Race HQ, and is multi‑terrain with rough rocky tracks, heathery paths, a forest section and about one mile of road up the back of the moor.

The forest sections contain tree roots and small wooden bridges that can be slippery when wet. A recently cleared section of forest on the second part of the route may expose old roots. There will be a marked refreshment point on course at Whetstone Gate and finishers receive water and a bottle of beer.

This is an FRA race and runners are required to carry full body waterproof cover when conditions demand. Mandatory kit lists a waterproof jacket with taped seams and attached hood, waterproof trousers, a hat and gloves; rules may be relaxed on the day if weather is good. Entry is available in advance or on the day subject to availability. Entry fees are listed as £8/£10 pre entry for FRA members and non-members, and £10/£12 on the day.

Facilities are basic: no changing or showering facilities and toilets are at White Wells about 200 m from the start. First aid posts will be at the Start/Finish and at Whetstone Gate. Race HQ is in the Wells Road car park in Ilkley, postcode LS29 9JE. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
