Rombalds Romp Fell Race
Rombalds Romp is a 13 kilometre fall race on Ilkley Moor organised by North Leeds Fell Runners. The course is a BM category fell race with approximately 370 m of ascent and a hilly profile. The route is single lap and uses mixed terrain including rough rocky tracks, heathery paths, a forest section with wooden bridges, and about one mile of road up the back of the moor. The forest has exposed tree roots that can be slippery when wet and a recently cleared section with old roots that can be tricky underfoot. The race start and finish are on Keighley Road, around half a mile from Race HQ at Wells Road.
Mandatory kit follows FRA requirements and includes a waterproof jacket with taped seams and attached hood, waterproof trousers, hat, gloves, compass and whistle; rules may be relaxed on the day depending on conditions. Facilities at Race HQ are basic: no water, no distance markers, no changing or shower facilities, no baggage storage and toilets are located in the town centre about 1 km from the start. Parking is advised at Darwin Gardens car park, about a five minute walk from the start, with SatNav postcode LS29 9JE; alternative parking is on Wells Road and adjoining streets with consideration for local residents.
Entry is limited to 200 places with places remaining at publication. Entry fees are £8 affiliated and £10 unaffiliated, with a higher on the day fee if entries remain. Prizes are awarded to the first three men and women and in veteran categories MV40, MV50, MV60, FV40, FV50 and FV60 with one prize per runner.
