Roman River Trails

Colchester, United Kingdom • 13 Sep 2026

Event overview

Roman River Trails is a trail running event organised by Hare & Tortoise Running and scheduled for 13 September 2026. The event uses Bannatyne Gym & Spa, Kingsford Park, Layer De La Haye as race headquarters. Two self-navigation distances are offered:

  • Half marathon
  • Marathon

Entry fees start from £21. The organiser offers a reduced marathon entry option of £25 if a medal is not selected at registration. Reusable collapsible cups are available to buy for £2.50.

Course, navigation and facilities

The route is predominantly hard-packed trail with sections of tarmac and grass footpath. The marathon crosses the Roman River numerous times and contains uphill and downhill sections due to the river valley; the half marathon is a single loop that follows half of the marathon course and passes villages west of Colchester. Navigation is provided by a .gpx file or written instructions supplied before the event.

Fully stocked aid stations are sited at about 10 km intervals and offer drinks and a range of snacks. The event is cupless, so participants must carry a receptacle to be filled at aid stations. Toilets are available at the race HQ. There is a strict no-litter policy; participants seen littering may be disqualified. Cut-off times are 3.5 hours for the half marathon and 7 hours for the marathon. Trails are shared with other users, who should be treated courteously.
