Ridge to Rails 50k, Half, and 10k, Old Fort NC
Ridge to Rails stages three trail races in Old Fort, North Carolina on trails around the Old Fort Gateway Trail system and Mill Creek Valley. The event offers distinct courses that combine newly built singletrack, classic trails, and short stretches of gravel.
Distances
- 50k
- Half marathon
- 10k
The 50k is a single large loop that uses a mix of smooth and technical terrain with notable downhills and climbs. Named routes referenced for the 50k include Jarrett Creek Road, Star Gap Trail, Mill Creek Road, Bernard Mountain Road, Bernard Mountain Trail, Point Lookout Trail, Kitsuma Trail, Copper Ridge Trail, Rostan Trail, and Salt Gap Trail.
The half marathon is a point to point net downhill course that uses Bernard Mountain Trail and Point Lookout Trail among others, with approximately 2,600 feet of elevation loss over about 13 miles and roughly 1,200 feet of total elevation gain. Half marathon runners must use a shuttle to reach the start; there is no parking at the start location.
The 10k links most of the new Old Fort Gateway singletrack into a figure eight with gradual grades and about 750 feet of elevation change. Aid stations are placed on each course: two on the half at miles 5.6 and 9.5, one on the 10k at mile 3, and five on the 50k with exact mileages pending. Packet pickup is available the day before at Hillman Brewery and on race morning at the start. Parking is organized at Camp Grier. Race rules include staying on marked trails, checking into aid stations, no pacers, and respecting other trail users and marshals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
