Table Rock Ultras
Table Rock Ultras is a trail running event at Steele Creek Park and Family Campground in Morganton, NC. The event offers two race distances and is restricted to participants ages 18 and over. The races are permitted through the US Forest Service and follow rugged mountain trails with creek crossings, rock-hopping, and technical sections.
Course details differ by distance. The 50K reaches the summit of Table Rock Mountain and returns, while the 30K follows the same outbound route and retraces after the second aid station.
- 50K: summit route; ~5,700 ft climb; 12 mi single-track.
- 30K: follows same outbound route; ~4,000 ft climb; 8 mi single-track.
Surface composition and total vertical change are provided for each distance: the 50K includes about 9 miles of double-track and 10 miles of gravel for a total vertical change around 11,000 ft; the 30K includes 9 miles of double-track and 3 miles of gravel for a total vertical change around 8,000 ft.
Aid stations will at minimum offer water, Gatorade, and assorted soft drinks plus snacks such as chips, pretzels, cookies, candies, trail mix, and PB&J. Organizers request runners bring a water bottle or bladder because cups will not be provided. Aid station mile locations are listed for both distances, and one station is designated for drop bags.
Start and finish are at Steele Creek Park, where a primitive camping area is reserved for the event and discounted camping options are available. Registration closes on September 17. The event has a refund schedule for cancellations up to 45 days before the race and maintains a waitlist so bibs cannot be transferred. If the in-person race is canceled for reasons such as natural events or state COVID closures, the event will be run virtually on the actual course; no refunds, transfers, or deferrals will be given if the race moves to a virtual format. Exceptions to the refund window include military deployment, pregnancy deferment, and certain bereavement cases. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
