The Rathfinny Run
The Rathfinny Run takes place within the Rathfinny Wine Estate, located in the South Downs National Park near Alfriston. This event offers participants the opportunity to run through a working vineyard that is B Corp certified. The course consists of an undulating 10.7 km loop featuring grass trails, hard tracks, and wooded sections. The terrain includes hills and cambers, with an elevation gain of approximately 220 metres per loop.
Available distances include:
- 10.7 km (single loop)
- 21.4 km (double loop half marathon)
This is a carbon-neutral and cup-less event. No single-use plastics are used, and participants must bring their own hydration equipment, such as a foldable cup or bottle. Instead of traditional race t-shirts, the event supports environmental initiatives by planting trees or offsetting carbon footprints. Refreshment stations located at the 5 km mark and the finish line provide water, fruit, and snacks.
Finishers receive recycled slate medals. The event also features a kit swap shop for reusable running gear and a pre-race warm-up session. A free shuttle bus service is available for runners from Berwick station to reduce the environmental impact of travel. For those driving, car sharing is encouraged with specific parking fee structures for single-occupancy vehicles. The race raises funds and provides spaces for the WOLO Foundation, a local charity supporting families affected by cancer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
