LDWA South Downs Marathon
East Dean, United Kingdom • 26 Apr 2026
Event Overview
The LDWA South Downs Marathon is a walking and running event offering two route options. The long route covers approximately 28 miles with over 4000 feet of ascent, while the shorter route is 18 miles with over 2800 feet of ascent. Participants have a maximum time of 11 hours to finish.
Route & Checkpoints
Both routes cross countryside in the South Downs National Park, passing Seven Sisters, Cuckmere Haven, and the downland villages of Littlington, Firle, and Alfriston. The 18-mile route does not visit Firle, Firle Beacon, and returns from Alfriston via an alternative path. There are three checkpoints on the 28-mile route and two on the 18-mile route, each providing food and refreshments with vegetarian options. An emailed certificate is included for all finishers within the time limit, as is a light hot meal at the end.

The event starts at East Dean Village Hall (BN20 0DR). A staggered start window is provided, with all participants to be finished by 19:30. Car parking is available in the field next to the hall, and luggage may be left in the hall. Route descriptions, maps, and GPX files will be available for download before the event.
