LDWA South Downs Marathon 2026

The LDWA South Downs Marathon offers two waymarked routes through parts of the South Downs National Park, starting and finishing at East Dean Village Hall, BN20 0DR. Entrants have an 11-hour time limit to complete their chosen route. The event includes checkpoint controls, a light hot meal at the finish, and an emailed certificate for all finishers within the 11-hour limit.

The routes cross coastal and downland terrain and visit locations such as Cuckmere Haven, Firle Beacon and the downland villages of Littlington, Firle and Alfriston. Route files and full descriptions, including GPX and map sections, will be available for download from 13 April 2026.

  • 28 miles with about 4000 ft ascent
  • 18 miles with about 2800 ft ascent

Event services include three or two checkpoints with food and refreshments (vegetarian options available), luggage storage in the village hall, and a purchasable badge. Electronic route descriptions require batteries sufficient for 15 hours; every entrant must carry a route description and a drinking vessel. Maps recommended are OS Landranger 198/199 or Explorer 123/OL25.

Rules note that the event is open to walkers and runners, under 18s need written parental consent and must be accompanied by a responsible adult, membership of the LDWA is not required, there are no entries on the day, and dogs are not permitted except assistance dogs.
