Bewl 15 Mile & 5 Mile

Organised by Wadhurst Runners, the Bewl 15 and 5 mile races take place around Bewl Water in East Sussex. These multi-terrain events offer participants a choice between two distinct distances:

  • 15 Miles: A route following footpaths and quiet country lanes, including a section through the nature reserve.
  • 5 Miles: A trail route that follows the initial 2.5 miles of the longer course before returning along the same path.

The 15 mile course begins in Wadhurst and transitions into undulating sections along the shoreline of the reservoir, followed by a hilly section on paved lanes. The 5 mile race is conducted entirely off-road. A four-hour time limit is in place for the 15 mile distance. The longer race is also recognized as part of the Sussex Grand Prix series.

Participants receive a bespoke medal and a commemorative t-shirt upon finishing. The post-race area features a local brass band and refreshments including complimentary cake and beer. While the events are competitively timed with trophies for leading runners and cash prizes for top finishers in the 15 mile category, they also serve as a fundraiser for the Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSSAA).

Race headquarters are located in a field off Blacksmiths Lane in Wadhurst. Parking is available locally and is weather dependent; organizers encourage car sharing where possible. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
