Bewl 15 & 5 Mile : Wadhurst Runners

The Bewl event on 5 July 2026 offers two off road race distances around Bewl Water, organised by Wadhurst Runners and based at Blacksmiths Lane, Wadhurst, Sussex TN5 6AZ. The races raise funds for the Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex; the 2025 event raised £6200 for that charity.

Distances

  • 15 Mile: full round Bewl Water route including nature reserve and lakeside views
  • 5 Mile: trail route following the first 2.5 miles of the round Bewl route then return

Route notes describe footpaths, quiet country lanes and multi terrain sections. The 15 mile course begins in Wadhurst, descends to join the round Bewl route and includes gently undulating sections along the shore plus a shorter hilly section on quiet lanes. The 15 mile route has a four hour time limit. The 5 mile race is entirely off road.

Race services and inclusions mentioned for finishers include a bespoke medal, a commemorative Bewl t shirt, trophies for leading runners and spot prize vouchers. On the day competitors are offered cake and a complimentary beer at the finish and there is music from a local brass band. Marshals and water stations are provided along the course. A trail marathon and half along part of the Vanguard Way, an undulating out and back route with varied South East England scenery.

Mixed terrain 10k and half marathon around Wye with valley views and the historic chalk crown, based at Wye Village Hall with a small event village, toilets and refreshments.

Guided 15 miles trail run from Exceat along the Seven Sisters, South Downs Way and Cuckmere River to Cuckmere Haven, led by Trail Run Explorers.

Off road half marathon in Henfield on 16 August 2026 with riverside and disused railway sections, flint paths and stiles; facilities include changing rooms and free parking.
