The 15 mile race is the original round Bewl Water route and is the only distance that passes through the nature reserve with lakeside views. It follows footpaths and quiet country lanes, with gently undulating sections along the shore and a shorter hilly section on quiet lanes. There is a four hour time limit for the 15 mile route. The event is part of the Sussex Grand Prix series and attracts club runners from around Sussex.

The 5 mile race follows the first 2.5 miles of the 15 mile route and then returns along the same off road trail. The 5 mile is entirely off road.

The races are organised by volunteers and marshals. Finishers receive a bespoke medal and a commemorative Bewl t shirt; trophies and spot prizes are awarded to leading runners. The event supports the Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex and in 2025 raised £6,200 for that charity. After the race runners are offered complimentary cakes and beer and there is often a local brass band. Parking is available but is weather dependent.
