Bewl 15 & 5 Mile

Organised by Wadhurst Runners, the Bewl 15 and 5 mile races take place on 5 July 2026 around Bewl Water, East Sussex. Two off road distances are offered:

  • 15 mile original round Bewl Water route including the nature reserve
  • 5 mile trail following the first part of the round Bewl route

The 15 mile route begins in Wadhurst, descends to join the round Bewl route and includes gently undulating sections along the reservoir shore plus a shorter hilly section on quiet lanes. There is a 4 hour time limit for the 15 mile race. The 5 mile course follows the 15 mile route for about 2.5 miles before returning along the same path and is entirely off road.

The event is run by volunteers and marshals. Finishers receive a bespoke medal and a commemorative Bewl t shirt; trophies are awarded to leading runners. Complimentary cake and a beer are provided at the finish and a local brass band often plays. Free parking is available subject to weather.

The Bewl races support the Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSSAA); in 2025 the event raised £6,200 for the charity. Cash prizes for the 15 mile include £100 for first male and female winners, rising to £200 if a course record is broken, plus prizes for second and third places.
