Course and route

Races use part of the Vanguard Way long-distance route. The full marathon is described as an out 13.1 mile and back 13.1 mile course following the undulating trail. The Vanguard Way runs 66 miles from East Croydon to Newhaven and passes through Surrey, Kent and East Sussex, beginning on the southern outskirts of Greater London. The event route includes parkland, woodland and open country and passes features such as historic houses at Coombe, Selsdon Wood Nature Reserve, the church of St. Mary the Virgin at Farleigh, Nore Hill Chalk Pinnacle, the North Downs (highest point 260 m / 853 ft), the Greenwich Meridian, Titsey Place, an M25 footbridge and the Greensand Ridge near Limpsfield.

Finishers receive a medal and a goody bag; goody bags and finish provisions include race items and post-race food and snacks. Route maps and downloadable directions are available for the Vanguard Way, and a photoguide app exists to help navigate the trail.
