Course, logistics and safety
The courses are very hilly and mix singletrack (about 40%) and fire roads (about 60%) on dirt surfaces, with creeks and old oak trees and exposed sections. Reported course ascent ranges from 464 feet for the 5K to 6,059 feet for the 50K. Two fully stocked aid stations are listed: Rancho Canada del Oro (start/finish area) and Bald Peaks/Needlegrass. Additional water stops are located at several trail intersections. Runners are strongly encouraged to carry at least one, preferably two, water bottles or a camelback. Drop bags are available only at the Rancho Canada del Oro aid station. There is one on-site commode in the main parking lot; additional public toilets are noted nearby.
