Racing Dusk

Racing Dusk is a 20 mile trail running event located at West Bragg Creek, held near the winter solstice. The race features a unique format consisting of three loops that all start and finish at the same central location. Participants are permitted to complete the loops in any order they choose, though all loops must be run in a counter-clockwise direction.

The course is divided into three specific sections:

  • Loop 1: Follows Telephone Loop, Disconnect, and Long Distance, returning via Whitetail.
  • Loop 2: Includes Ranger Summit and Strange Brew, returning via Boundary Ridge.
  • Loop 3: Utilizes Whitetail, Braggin Rights, and Merlin View.

The event has a total time limit of 8 hours, with a specific cut-off requiring runners to start their final loop by 2:30pm. Because the race occurs in mid-December, conditions may include deep snow, extreme cold, or dry weather. As sunset occurs around 4:30pm, participants starting their final loop after 1:00pm are required to carry a headlamp.

Mandatory gear must be carried at all times during the race and includes a race bib, a minimum of 1 liter of water, gloves or mittens, a toque, an additional warm layer, and a space blanket or bivy bag. Race package pickup is available at the start location on the morning of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
