Race The Tide, Chase The Train
The Minehead Running Club, in association with the Somerset Series, organizes a coastal race in West Somerset. This event takes place in Blue Anchor near Minehead and follows a multi-surface route measuring approximately 7 miles.
The flat course begins along the sandy beach at the water's edge, moving from Blue Anchor to Minehead. The return leg follows the coastal path and the Steam Coast Trail, running alongside the West Somerset Steam Railway. Participants encounter a variety of surfaces including sand, short grass, and tarmac, as well as short sections of smooth pebbles and uneven ground.
Water stations are available at two points during the race, located at 3.7 miles in Minehead and 5.5 miles at Dunster Beach. The event features a wide start line to accommodate runners without the need for chip timing. Marshals and signage are positioned at key points to guide participants through the officially unmarked route.
Standard facilities include plenty of free parking along the seafront, flushing toilets, and shower facilities at the event headquarters. Following the completion of the race, awards are presented to the top three men and women overall, as well as winners in age categories starting from 40 through to 70+.
