Race The Tide, Chase The Train

This event is the inaugural beach and coastal race organised by Minehead Running Club as part of the Somerset Series. The course is a mixed surface out‑and‑back of approximately 7 miles that runs along the sandy beach from Blue Anchor to Minehead and returns via the coast path and the Steam Coast Trail beside the West Somerset Steam Railway.

The route is described as flat and mainly comprises sand, short grass and tarmac, with short stretches of smooth pebbles and some uneven surfaces. Runners should expect wet feet in places. The route is officially unmarked but signs and marshals will guide competitors at key points. The event does not use chip timing and uses a wide start line.

Hydration and medical provision are stated: water stations are located at 3.7 and 5.5 miles, and first aid is available at the turnaround point and at the finish. Race numbers are collected from The Bay Eatery. Awards are presented to the first three men and first three women overall and to age group winners in 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65 and 70 plus categories; awards must be collected at the presentation and will not be forwarded.

Additional notes: a free T shirt is included for online entries made before 17 May 2026, finishers receive a medal and all runners are offered free ice cream at the finish. Refreshments, toilets and shower facilities are available near the race headquarters. Dogs are welcome in the area but may not run with competitors. Headphones are not permitted except for medical reasons. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
