Race on the Chase : Salisbury Racecourse

Race on the Chase is a trail running event based at Salisbury Racecourse (SP2 8PN). The venue provides substantial indoor space with permanent toilets and hot showers, plus a large area of hard parking about 3 miles from Salisbury city centre.

The event offers multiple distances:

  • Marathon (625 m vertical climb)
  • Half Marathon (329 m vertical climb)
  • 10K (133 m vertical climb)

All courses follow similar terrain: undulating downland using ancient tracks or droves, grassy field margins, shady woodland paths and areas of the Martin Down Nature Reserve. Runners pass open countryside and may pass through small villages, with extended views over rolling fields and woodland.

The local landscape contains several historic and archaeological features. The race name derives from Cranborne Chase; nearby sites include a Roman villa at Rockbourne, Bronze Age burial mounds, Bockerley Dike an Iron Age earthwork, and a large earth mound on Martin Down associated with a former WW2 rifle range.

Finishers receive a medal, and the first three finishers in each event in male and female categories receive trophies. The event has used an improved marathon course alongside established 10K and half marathon options and is held at the racecourse to provide convenient facilities for participants.
