Race on the Chase
Race on the Chase is a trail running event held at Salisbury Racecourse, Netherhampton, Wiltshire (SP2 8PN). The venue provides substantial indoor space with permanent toilets, hot showers and a large area of hard parking, and lies about three miles from Salisbury city centre.
The event features three distances that use similar terrain across downland and countryside. Routes follow ancient tracks known as droves, grassy field margins, shady woodland paths and the turf of Martin Down Nature Reserve. The landscape includes open views and sections that pass near or through small villages.
Distances and reported vertical climb:
- Marathon - 625 m vertical climb
- Half Marathon - 329 m vertical climb
- 10k - 133 m vertical climb
The course runs through an area with notable historic features. The name references Cranborne Chase. Runners pass remains from Roman and Bronze Age periods, and the marathon and half marathon include a stretch along Bockerley Dike, an Iron Age earthwork. A large earth mound on Martin Down is associated with a former World War II rifle range.
The event has been held for several years and used an improved marathon course in 2024. Every finisher receives a medal, and the first three finishers in each event in male and female categories receive a trophy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
