Race on the Chase

Race on the Chase takes place at Salisbury Racecourse, located three miles from Salisbury city centre. The event marks its seventh anniversary and utilizes the racecourse facilities, providing participants with access to indoor space, permanent restrooms, hot showers, and a large hard-surface parking area. The courses explore the undulating downland and ancient tracks of the surrounding countryside.

The event offers three distinct trail distances:

  • Marathon: A course featuring 625m of vertical climb.
  • Half Marathon: An undulating route with 329m of vertical climb.
  • 10k: A shorter trail option with 133m of vertical climb.

The terrain consists of historic droves, which were once cattle and sheep routes to market, as well as grassy field margins and woodland paths. Participants run through the ancient turf of the Martin Down nature reserve and across the Cranborne Chase area. The landscape features various historical landmarks, including Bronze Age burial mounds and the Bockerley Dike, an Iron Age boundary earthwork.

The routes provide vistas of rolling fields and open countryside, occasionally passing through local villages. All finishers receive a medal, and trophies are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each distance. Registration and number collection occur on-site on the morning of the event.
