Race on the Chase - Tricounties Trail Running
Held on Sunday 27 September at Salisbury Racecourse (SP2 8PN) for its seventh anniversary, this event offers trail races that use an improved marathon course alongside half marathon and 10K routes. The venue provides substantial indoor space, permanent toilets, hot showers and a large area of hard parking, and lies about three miles from Salisbury city centre.
Distances and vertical climb:
- Marathon - 625 m vertical climb
- Half marathon - 329 m vertical climb
- 10K - 133 m vertical climb
All distances follow similar terrain, featuring undulating downland, ancient tracks known as droves, grassy field margins and shady woodland paths. Part of the courses run across the turf of Martin Down nature reserve and through wide-open countryside with views over rolling fields and occasional village sections.
The route passes through a landscape with layered historic features: Cranborne Chase, a Roman villa site at Rockbourne, Bronze Age burial mounds, the Iron Age Bockerley Dike boundary earthwork and other Neolithic remains. A large earth mound on Martin Down marks the site of a World War II rifle range.
Every finisher receives a medal. The top three men and the top three women in each event are awarded trophies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
