Race in the Clouds: Alma Dirt Festival

Race in the Clouds is a multi-discipline dirt festival held in Alma, Colorado at 10,600 feet during the weekend of June 25 to 28, 2026. The event program includes mountain bike races, an off road duathlon, trail running races, and a free kids Pedal and Dash Bash for ages 12 and under held Friday in the Alma Town Park. The weekend also features expo area activity in the Buckskin Cemetery Meadow and weekend camping in the Alma Meadow.

The race courses use a mix of singletrack, Forest Service roads, and graded county roads laid out in a multi-loop figure eight. Each loop includes two significant climbs and fast descents across classic high-country terrain, with repeated passes through the expo area.

Awards are given to top overall finishers by Men, Women, and Non-Binary categories, as well as by age group divisions including U23, 24-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 plus. Separate high school and middle school divisions are offered, and parents or coaches may join the school-age wave without additional fee through organizer arrangements.

Camping is available at the start and finish meadow about half a mile from downtown Alma with dispersed sites, porta-potties, and trash containers; camping opens Thursday morning and race entries include a 50 percent camping discount. The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and each race entry includes a one day membership with participant accident insurance coverage.
