Sheep Mountain Trail Runs

The Sheep Mountain Trail Runs take place in Fairplay, Colorado, situated along the western slope of the South Park Valley. The event operates at a high elevation, with an average of over 10,600 feet throughout the course. Participants navigate a landscape characterized by mountains and hills, with the route utilizing a mix of technical terrain and remote forest service roads.

The event offers three distinct distances:

  • 50-Mile
  • 50k
  • Half Marathon

The 50k and 50-Mile courses are designed to provide a wilderness experience with views of the surrounding mountain region. These longer distances feature a combination of technical trails and rougher terrain. In contrast, the Half Marathon is designed as a more accessible introduction to the area. Its course primarily features flowing dirt county roads and USFS Fire Roads, some of which are rocky.

The start and finish line is located at the Town of Fairplay Events Flat on Platte Drive. The event allows for race day registration on-site during designated times on the Friday evening and Saturday morning of the race weekend. While finishers usually receive awards, race shirts are not guaranteed for those who register on the day of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
