Prickly Pedal : Maricopa Trail mountain bike races and trail run
Prickly Pedal offers mountain bike events on the Maricopa Trail and a separate trail run that begins and ends at Lake Pleasant Regional Park. The event takes place in the Cave Creek and Lake Pleasant area and supports the Maricopa Trail & Park Foundation.
Distances:
- 36 Mile MTB point-to-point from Cave Creek to Lake Pleasant.
- 15 Mile MTB loop beginning inside Pioneer Living History Museum.
- 10 Mile Trail Run out-and-back from the 10 Lane Boat Ramp at Lake Pleasant.
The 36 mile MTB is a point-to-point course that follows the Maricopa Trail and finishes at the Lake Pleasant 10 Lane Boat Ramp. The course includes varied desert terrain with rocky climbs and descents; some sections may require dismounting and hiking. Two on-course aid stations are located near miles 15 and 30; the finish area also provides aid, drop bag access, and crew access limited to start and finish. Pacers are not permitted.
The 15 mile MTB includes a fast, relatively flat opening segment, a single on-course aid station near mile 9, a canyon section, and climbing in the final miles. The 10 mile trail run follows Frogs Tank, Beardsley, Wild Burro, and Pipeline Canyon trails to Pipeline Cove and back, with one aid station on course.
Additional on-site details include marked courses, medical staff at start and finish, shuttle service from the finish to start lines (ticket required), campground group sites near Lane 10 with a fee per unit, parking fees at Lake Pleasant for spectators, and volunteer opportunities with race credits and event merchandise.
