Prairie Goat VK

Prairie Goat VK is a vertical kilometer event held on August 9, 2026 at SpringHill Winter Park near Springfield, Manitoba. This is the third edition and it takes place on Treaty 1 territory, the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Ojibwe-Cree, Dakota and Dene peoples and the Red River Métis Nation.

The objective is to reach 1,000 m of total vertical gain by repeating a 400 m loop that includes a rapid descent followed by a demanding climb back to the summit. Participants repeat the circuit until they reach 30 laps or the four hour time limit. Entry is capped at 100 runners.

On course, an aid station supplies water, electrolytes, energy bars and fruit. The event is cup free and participants are asked to bring a reusable vessel. Drop bags are allowed. Pacers are not permitted; spectators may watch and cheer from the summit.

All participants receive a finisher medal. VK Top Finisher awards and GOAT trophies are given for those who complete the most loops before the cutoff. Free high quality course photos will be provided and a post race barbecue is planned. St. John Ambulance will be on site for safety. The organizer states a commitment to supporting Indigenous runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
