Prairie Goat VK

Prairie Goat VK takes place on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at SpringHill Winter Park in Springfield, MB. This is the event's third year and it is held on Treaty 1 territory, the traditional lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Ojibwe-Cree, Dakota, Dene peoples and the Red River Métis Nation.

The event is a vertical kilometer with the goal of reaching 1,000 m of total vertical gain within a four hour time limit. The course is a 400 m loop featuring a rapid descent immediately followed by a steep climb back to the summit. Participants repeat the circuit until they complete 30 laps or reach the time limit.

On-course support includes an aid station offering water, electrolytes, energy bars and fruit. The event is cup-less; participants are asked to bring a reusable vessel. Drop bags are allowed; pacers are not permitted and spectators are encouraged to cheer from the summit. St. John Ambulance will provide on-site medical support.

All finishers receive a commemorative medal. Awards include VK top finisher prizes and 'GOAT' trophies for those who complete the most laps before the cutoff. Free high-quality course photos will be provided and there is a post-race barbecue. Participation is capped at 100 runners. Registration closes August 1, 2026.
