Port Oneida Run
Port Oneida Run is an annual early August running event held within the Port Oneida Rural Historic District of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Courses pass historic farms and barns from the 1800s and run near Pyramid Point across a mix of trails, gravel and paved back roads. Distances offered include:
- 5K on crushed gravel and dirt; strollers and leashed dogs allowed.
- 10K shares part of the half course, includes a very steep climb near Pyramid Point.
- Half Marathon mixed dirt, grass, gravel and pavement with several steep climbs.
- Kid's Schoolhouse Dash 1/4 mile to the Port Oneida Schoolhouse and back.
All races start and finish at the Olsen Farm Big Red Barn at the Port Oneida Heritage Center, with on-site parking. Packet pickup is available only on race morning. Longer courses include multiple water and aid stations; the 5K has one station just past mile one. Professional chip timing is provided and wave starts are used to reduce trail crowding. Pets are permitted only in the farmyard and only for the 5K event; all animals must be on short leashes. The event runs in most weather conditions but will not operate during lightning. A National Park pass is required and participants are asked to clean shoes of mud and debris to help prevent the spread of invasive species.
Awards include first overall male and female for each main race, age group awards, and participant awards which must be collected in person. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
