Loop The Lake - Traverse City

Loop The Lake is a trail race presented by the Traverse City Track Club around Boardman Lake, with start and finish at Hull Park on the north side of the lake. The event includes multiple race formats that follow the Boardman Lake Loop Trail.

  • 4 miles open to runners and walkers; certified by USATF.
  • 8 miles recommended for runners only; some courses may be slightly over eight miles.
  • Two person relay (4 miles each) teams run one at a time.

The trail route is mostly pavement with segments of gravel, boardwalk, and several bridges. The east side is heavily wooded with gentle curves; the southern end includes two bridges and an extended boardwalk over the lake cove; the west side is pavement and the northern end has one bridge. The race is run in a clockwise direction and the course remains open to the general public with signage.

All participants receive a Loop the Lake RaceTracker technical Run Dri running cap. Finishers will be offered açaí, coconut, and mango bowls from Playa Bowls and some beverages.

Awards include top three overall and top three masters 40 plus for male and female in the 4 mile and 8 mile events, age group top three medals, and multiple relay team categories. A July 4 running event at Fife Lake Elementary School offering 10K, 5K run, and 5K walk. The 10K follows the lake shoreline while the 5K courses run through downtown during local July 4 activities.

The Alden Run in Alden, Michigan features a 5K, 10K and a 2 Mile Fun Walk on mixed terrain and paved roads; the 5K and 10K are USATF sanctioned and proceeds support local schools and nonprofits.
