Pi Day River Rotation

Lawrence, United States • 14 Mar 2026

Event Details

The Pi Day River Rotation takes place on the Lawrence River Trails in Lawrence, Kansas. There are three race distances:

  • 16.24 Miler (Pi Slam)
  • Pi Miler (3.14 miles)
  • Half Marathon

All races start at the Levee gate at 8th and Oak.

The Course

The course uses the Lawrence River Trails, which are described as relatively flat singletrack trails with some short hills. The trails are noted as flowy and not very technical, with few roots or rocks.

The Pi Miler is a single loop following a 5K route. The Half Marathon consists of three loops run in different directions on the trail system. The 16.24 Miler combines the Pi Miler and Half Marathon courses.

If the trails are muddy or unsafe, an alternative course on the packed-gravel Lawrence Levee Trail may be used.

Aid Stations and Support

Water, electrolytes, energy snacks, and fruit will be available on the course. A smaller aid station is located near the 5K Loop turnaround. Half Marathon runners will pass this station during each loop and also have access to a larger aid station at the trailhead. Runners are encouraged to bring reusable hydration bottles or cups.

Post-Race and Awards

At the finish line, pie is served. Finishers receive a fork. Awards are given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place overall in each gender category for the Pi Miler and Half Marathon. Finishers of the 16.24-mile Pi Slam receive a special swag item.

Race Day Logistics

A race day cutoff time of 1:00 PM is enforced. Half Marathon runners must begin their final loop by 11:45 AM to be officially supported. Packet pickup is available the day before at Fleet Feet Lawrence on Massachusetts Street, and on race day starting at 6:00 AM.

Participant Guidelines

The event emphasizes safety and respect for all participants and volunteers. Passing on the single-track trails should be done courteously and announced. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult during the race; the trails are not suitable for strollers. Leashed dogs are permitted but must start near the back. Personal music devices are discouraged, and speakers are not allowed. The event operates under a "Kindness to Life and Land" ethos, asking participants to pack out their trash.
