Phil Widener Empire Open 3.4 Miles

The Phil Widener Empire Open is a PA/USATF cross country race held at Spring Lake Regional Park near the Jackrabbit boat launch in Santa Rosa, California on August 30, 2026. The event is the 33rd annual running of the Empire Open and uses a course of 3.4 miles that includes rugged dirt trails, a short section of asphalt bike path, and several short hills.

The event program consists of three separate races: a women's open race, a men's masters race for athletes aged 40 and older, and a men's open race. A prize purse of $1,500 is available for USATF members and teams. PA/USATF comped athletes may register without fee if they were awarded comped entry for the 2026 XC season by PA/USATF.

Online and mail-in registration options are offered. Mail-in entries must be received by August 26, 2026. Race-day entries are not accepted. Entry fees are not refundable unless the event is canceled. Organizers note that participants should allow extra time for park entrance kiosk lines and that carpooling may reduce delays.

Confirmation email serves as proof of registration. Additional documentation such as past results, records, and a course map are maintained by the event organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
