JP's Backyard Ultra & Hike, The Final Edition

JP's Backyard Ultra is an in-person ultramarathon and hike held on a 3.3 mile loop at Skyline Wilderness Park in Napa, California. The course includes over 550 feet of climbing and a mix of terrain from steep rocky sections to shaded paths. This is the fourth and final year of the event.

Participants may complete anywhere from 1 to 10 loops. Loops begin on the hour, with direction alternating between clockwise on even hours and counterclockwise on odd hours, so all participants start each loop together. Completing ten loops results in a 33.3 mile total.

On-course support includes a main camp aid station with assorted caloric options and drinks; water is available only at the bridge and at mile 2.3. Food and lunch are provided for participants and volunteers. The event is cupless, so participants should bring a water bottle or hydration pack; limited reusable cups and filling stations are available at aid stations.

Awards and fundraising are part of the event. Medals are given to all registered participants. Additional medals, wine or non alcoholic options, and trophies are awarded to top finishers across multiple loop categories and for fastest times. A raffle and a silent wine auction are held during the event, with proceeds benefiting the Pheo Para Alliance, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN 26-1510652). Registration is free with a suggested donation starting at $30. Parking is arranged for registered participants away from the main lot, and park rules prohibit dogs on trails and require carrying out trash. Childcare and nearby camping options are provided through the park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
