Course and amenities
The course is a loop on singletrack trail that runs along a creek and includes rolling hills. Sections of the trail have pine needles underfoot. Fully stocked aid stations are positioned approximately every 4-5 miles. Weather in December can vary and may include rain, snow, or sun.
Prizes, teams and lodging
Each year carved wooden medals are awarded. Prizes are given to the top three male and female finishers in each race and in the relay. Long sleeve shirts are provided to all participants. A chili cook-off is part of the event; winners receive a prize and all entrants receive an apron.
The marathon includes a team category. Teams may include multiple runners; each team member runs the full marathon, the top three individual times per team are added, and the lowest combined time wins.
